This upgrade prevents a nuclear explosion upon the destruction of an ACU. Due to the required research of Detach ACU Pod, this research is only useful if you expect your ACU to be destroyed when you are not around to click 'Detach.' Otherwise, it may be a waste of 2 points as Detach does not cause your ACU to go nuclear.

However, Core Dump is more helpful when playing non-Assassination modes, as the destruction of your ACU Pod will not lose you the game, so it could be a slight bonus to remove the nuclear detonation in this case.
